Seeds are not just meant for birds. They are packed with loads of nutrients, such as anti-oxidants. Seeds are versatile and can easily be incorporated with different recipes. Pumpkin Seeds– they are rich in fibre and iron. They are a good source of amino acids, proteins, omega-3 and minerals like zinc and magnesium. Fresh roasted pumpkin seeds can be sprinkled on oatmeal, baked into muffins, mixed with smoothies and can added to energy bars.

 

Pomegranate Seeds– they are small red ‘jewels’ called arils. These arils are rich in fibre and vitamin C. They also contain heart healthy anti-oxidants like polyphenols, tannins and anthocyanin. They make juicy, sweet and low- calorie snacks. Try them tossed in salads, mixed into yoghurt or made into jellies.

 

Quinoa– they have remarkably high protein content, approximately 8g per cup. They are also rich in amino acids and vitamin E. This can substituted in place of rice or pasta. Quinoa makes healthy, gluten free breading and can also be eaten in place of oatmeal in breakfast.

 

Flax seeds– flax seeds are packed with nutrients. They are also rich in fibre, omega-3 and proteins. They contain lignans that are known to prevent cancer. Adding flax seeds to your diet is very easy; bake it into muffins, mix in salads, yoghurt, smoothies, cereal and soups.
